Amsterdam, February 26 – Amsterdam-based tech company Sparqle has raised €1.5 million, including financing from the European Union, to scale emission-free delivery across Europe. With a focus on expanding to other European countries, the Certified B Corporation takes the next step in creating a future-proof logistics infrastructure with sustainability at its core.
E-commerce innovation demands a new approach
Delivery is behind in a world where e-commerce rapidly innovates in speed, transparency, and consumer expectations. "The delivery industry is outdated, the system is outdated, and there is too much focus on cost and volume instead of customer experience,” says co-founder Ruurd Tjeerdema. "Today’s consumers expect a seamless experience at every step of the customer journey. But what we often see is that this positive experience ends at delivery, where a single misstep can instantly destroy the trust a brand has carefully built. That’s simply not acceptable anymore."
Sparqle provides what the founders believe is missing: an infrastructure that makes sustainability the standard, not an optional extra. “Our mission is to create a logistics ecosystem that combines sustainability with performance and customer satisfaction, meeting the demands of modern e-commerce,” adds Tjeerdema. “We don’t design band-aids for a broken system – we’re building the foundation on which current and next-generation e-commerce can thrive.”
Technology that blends performance and sustainability
Sparqle combines enthusiastic bike couriers in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France – ensuring a personal and careful delivery experience – with smart technology such as live tracking and proactive updates. With a strong focus on performance, the company helps clients reduce costs and establish a reliable brand experience.
"Innovation in delivery goes beyond green solutions; it’s about logistics intelligence. If your technology isn’t smart enough to support the complexity of modern e-commerce, you’ll fall behind. Sparqle proves that sustainability and economic performance work hand in hand, helping clients achieve better results,” adds Tim van Alphen, co-founder.
From delivery to strategic brand touchpoint
According to Sparqle, delivery is often treated as the practical conclusion of a transaction, while it’s actually a crucial touchpoint that directly influences customer experience and brand perception.
Tjeerdema: "Delivery is the only physical point of contact an online brand has with its customer. It should be more than simply getting the package from A to B; it needs to feel like an integrated brand experience. We see delivery as part of the product our clients sell."
European expansion plans
With a combination of public and private funding, including support from EU partners, Sparqle is accelerating its expansion strategy in Europe. The company is active in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, and is working on expanding into multiple European cities. Major clients such as Decathlon and Ricoh are already leveraging its platform.
Tim van Alphen: "We are building an infrastructure designed to be the backbone of future-focused e-commerce. Our focus is on companies that understand that conversion, customer satisfaction, and sustainability go hand in hand – and that’s exactly what we deliver."
